On Friday, I had the pleasure of joining the Cause Strategy Partners team on a webinar (Fireside Chat) for their BoardLead nonprofit partners.
While most folks were easing into the weekend, Whitley Richards and I were swapping stories and having a few laughs about thrilling topics like bylaws, 990s, and committee charters – the stuff guaranteed to make new board members question their decision to serve.
That conversation lit a fire under me (it was a fireside chat, after all), and the result is my latest blog post:
👉 Beware the Boring Board Onboarding
Spoiler: onboarding doesn’t have to feel like reading the phone book (remember those?).
It’s a sequence of information, inspiration, and integration – energy building, not coma inducing – that starts long before the candidate is elected to the board of directors.
If your new trustees are nodding off just when you hope they will be perking up, check this out. Your future, fully-engaged board will thank you.
Talk soon,
PS: Got an onboarding horror story? Hit reply – I’m collecting the greatest hits for a future piece (names changed to protect the yawning and overwhelmed).
