Big Picture or Weeds?

Bagley-isms

“I was relieved and annoyed to find out that fumbling in the dark was universal.”

I hated cutting that line from my latest blog, so I’m using it here. 😁

Let me explain.

Early in my career, I moved from managing a team of two to managing a team of eight. I knew the new role required new management techniques, but I wasn’t sure which ones, exactly.

And no one handed me the “Eight-Person Team User Manual.”

You either, huh?

The cohort in my graduate program helped me realize that none of us got that instruction manual. We had all been fumbling in the dark.

On a flight to a conference around that time, the pilot announced we were cruising at 35,000 feet. That sparked a question I've used to guide myself ever since.

I thought, “That’s what I want to do. How do I make that happen?”

Choosing my altitude became the framework for how I think about leadership.

This new post unpacks my thinking.

Are You Flying at the Right Altitude?

See if it might give you a few ideas too.

Until next time,
